Religion and Landcare in Mongolia Posted on March 1st

Have you ever thought about a connection between religoin and landcare? Me either! However a short documenary “Buddha and the Big Fish” tells the story of a partnership between Mongolian Buddhists, the Bozeman-based Tributary Fund, the Taimen Conservation Fund and Sweetwater Travel Company could go pretty close to a religion/landcare combo. The Taimen (the world’s largest salmonid) is not only seen as an indicator of healthy water but also has special cultural significant to Mongolian Buddhists. An ancient sutra equates the death of 1 with the suffering of the souls of 999 Mongolians. Terra make a stack of really great envirnmental films so you should definitely check them out, however I recommend starting with “Buddha and the Big Fish”
